A koeksister is a traditional Afrikaner confectionery made of fried dough infused in syrup or honey. There is also a Cape Malay version of the dish, which is a fried ball of dough that is rolled in desiccated coconut called a koesister.

It tasted great, but was a bit soft and doughy. I prefer it more crispy on the outside. I didn’t have to slave away to make it though and it had to be shipped quite far, so all things considered, it was excellent. Would I order it again, I think so.
